Announcement on Application for “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students 2023”
Association for Planning and Transportation Studies, The University of Tokyo (Dept. of Civil Engineering), National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Japan Railway Technical Service, Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) and East Japan Railway Company (JR East) are jointly planning to hold a “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students 2023.” This seminar aims to help students understand the purpose of the construction of the Shinkansen, its contribution to promotion of economic growth in Japan, and the technologies and systems that support it. Through a series of lectures given by top professionals and researchers, with technical tours including the visit at the train maintenance workshop, participants will deepen their understandings of the Shinkansen system.
Students are invited to take advantage of this opportunity.

1. Date: Thursday, September 14th to Friday, September 15th (two days and one night)
2. Schedule:
– September 14th: Seminar at GRIPS (Roppongi, Tokyo)
– September 15th: Technical Tours and Completion Ceremony
3. Eligibility:
1) International students studying any academic fields including, but not limited to, the interdisciplinary field of transportation such as transportation planning/policy, urban/regional/national planning, and economics and policy studies; and any specific engineering fields related to transportation such as mechanical engineering and electronic engineering, at Japanese graduate schools
2) Japanese graduate or undergraduate students studying the fields mentioned above
4. Participation fee: 5,000 yen
– Transportation and accommodation (for the night of September 14th) expenses during the seminar will be covered by the organizer.
– Other costs such as meals and transportation costs must be paid at the applicant’s own expense.

この度，以下の通り，計画・交通研究会，東京大学大学院（社会基盤学専攻），政策研究大学院大学は，海外鉄道技術協力協会，JR東海，JR東日本と共催で「留学生のための新幹線サマーセミナー2023」を開催いたします．どのような目的・思想で新幹線が導入され，日本の成長にどう活用されてきたのか，またそれを支えているのはどのような技術やシステムなのかについて，トップクラスの実務者等による網羅的な講義に加え，車両メンテナンスの現場見学なども実施し，理解していただこうとするものです．奮ってご応募くださいますよう、お待ち申し上げております。

・9月14日 政策研究大学院大学内にてセミナー
・9月15日 現場見学・修了式
3．対象者：
1)日本の大学に所属する大学院留学生の内，交通や都市・国土プロジェクトの計画や実施など総合的工学，経済・政策系の学問，機械工学・電気工学など個別工学を専門分野としている者，また，他の専門分野を学ぶ学生で広くこれらの分野に関心のある者
2)上記分野を専門とする日本人大学院生・大学生
4．参加費用：5,000円
・セミナーに関わる交通費と9月14日の宿泊費は主催者側が負担・手配します．
・それ以外の食事代と交通費は自己負担とします．
