「留学生のための新幹線サマーセミナー」の実施について Announcement of “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students”

この度、下記の通り、東京大学大学院(社会基盤学専攻)、政策研究大学院大学並びにJR東海、JR東日本の共同で、「留学生のための新幹線サマーセミナー」を開催いたします。どのような目的・思想で新幹線が導入され、日本の成長にどう活用されてきたのか、またそれを支えているのはどのような技術やシステムなのかについて、トップクラスの実務者等による網羅的な講義に加え、車両メンテナンスの現場見学なども実施し、理解していただこうとするものです。6月上旬に正式な公募のご案内をいたします。まずは取り急ぎご報告のみ。

  日時: 9月2日(火)~9月4日(木)の2泊3日
  スケジュール: 9月2日 東京・品川でセミナー、名古屋泊
            9月3日 現地見学(浜松工場ほか)、三島泊
            9月4日 静岡・三島でセミナー、修了式
  対象者: 日本の大学に所属する大学院留学生30名、日本人大学院生10名程度。応募者多数の場合は応募書類にて選考する。社会基盤の計画・政策・技術の分野を勉強している者を優先する。
  費用:一部費用負担。ただし、交通費や宿泊費は支援を予定している。

The University of Tokyo (Dept. of Civil Engineering), National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, JR Central and JR East are planning to hold a “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students”. This seminar aims to help students understand the purpose of the construction of the Shinkansen, how it is being utilized to promote growth in Japan, as well as the technologies and systems that support it. Through a series of lectures by top specialists and practitioners, and technical tours including the train maintenance workshop, participants will deepen their understanding of the Shinkansen system. Application information will be made available early next month.

- Date: Tuesday, September 2nd to Thursday Sep. 4th (three days and two nights)
- Schedule: Sep. 2nd Seminar in Shinagawa, Tokyo, stay in Nagoya
        Sep. 3rd Technical visits (Hamamatsu workshop etc.), stay in Mishima
        Sep. 4th Seminar in Mishima, Completion Ceremony
- Eligibility: 30 International students studying at Japanese graduate schools and 10 Japanese graduate students. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, we will conduct a selection based on information provided in the application form. Students studying infrastructure planning, policy and technology will be prioritized.
- Attendance fee: Part of the cost will be paid by attendees. However, transportation cost and accommodation fee will be covered.
