「留学生のための新幹線サマーセミナー2016」の実施について　Announcement of “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students 2016”

この度、下記の通り、東京大学大学院（社会基盤学専攻）、政策研究大学院大学は、海外鉄道技術協力協会、JR東日本、JR東海と共同で「留学生のための新幹線サマーセミナー2016」を開催いたします。どのような目的・思想で新幹線が導入され、日本の成長にどう活用されてきたのか、またそれを支えているのはどのような技術やシステムなのかについて、トップクラスの実務者等による網羅的な講義に加え、車両メンテナンスの現場見学なども実施し、理解していただこうとするもので、2014年から隔年で実施しています。6月上旬に正式な公募のご案内をいたします。まずは取り急ぎご報告のみ。

スケジュール：　9月5日        東京大学にてセミナー、静岡・三島泊

　　　　　　　　　　　 9月6日        三島にてセミナー、三島泊

　　　　　　　　　　　 9月7日        現地見学（浜松工場ほか）、修了式

対象者：　日本の大学に所属する大学院留学生30名、日本人大学院生10名程度。応募者多数の場合は応募書類にて選考する。社会基盤の計画・政策・技術の分野を勉強している者を優先する。

参加費（予定）：　5,000円（セミナー中の交通費、宿泊費、懇親会費を含む）

The University of Tokyo (Dept. of Civil Engineering), National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Japan Railway Technical Service, JR East and JR Central are jointly planning to hold a “Shinkansen Summer Seminar for International Students 2016”. This seminar aims to help students understand the purpose of the construction of the Shinkansen, how it is being utilized to promote growth in Japan, as well as the technologies and systems that support it. Through a series of lectures by top specialists and practitioners, and technical tours including the train maintenance workshop, participants will deepen their understanding of the Shinkansen system. This seminar started in 2014 and will be continuously held once in two years. Application information will be made available early next month.

Date:         Monday, September 5th to Wednesday September 7th (three days and two nights)

Schedule:   September 5th    Seminar in the University of Tokyo, stay in Mishima, Shizuoka

                 September 6th    Seminar in Mishima, stay in Mishima

                 September 7th   Technical visits (Hamamatsu workshop etc.), Completion Ceremony

Eligibility:   30 International students studying at Japanese graduate schools and 10 Japanese graduate students. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, we will conduct a selection based on information provided in the application form. Students studying infrastructure planning, policy and technology will be prioritized.

Attendance fee (tentative):    5,000 yen (incl. transportation, accommodation, and meals during the seminar)
